With the rapid development of transportation networks, the demand for buses is constantly increasing, and the requirements for bus safety and comfort are also constantly improving. The beauty and luxury of decoration materials have also become one of the important hallmarks of high-end luxury buses. So, let's learn more about Thick-sheet thermoforming the application of thermoforming in buses!

 Thick-sheet thermoforming

Thick-sheet thermoforming can be divided into sheet blister molding and soft-skin blister molding according to the process. Thick-sheet thermoforming The main materials used are butadiene-styrene (ABS) sheets, with only a small number of parts using acrylic (PMMA) sheets. The inner panels on the left and right sides of the bus cab, the upper inner panel, the rear inner panel, and some electrical box covers and other covers are all made of ABS sheet molding. Currently, there is a tendency to use composite ABS sheets instead of common ABS sheets. Composite ABS sheets are made by overlapping foamed polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride materials on the sheets and rolling them into sheets with a feel like leather or genuine leather. In the sound cover of the transparent instrument panel and the ventilation grille outside the body that prevents aging, acrylic is generally used for molding. Thick-sheet thermoforming soft-skin suction molding technology is mainly used for bus instrument panels. The substrate is generally hard glass (FRP), and air intake holes are opened on the hard glass to suck the skin. The skin material is mainly polyvinyl chloride and foamed polypropylene (PVC/PPF) composite materials.

Taking the inner panel plastic parts of a bus as an example, the molding process is briefly described. The part size is 1200mm*1000mm*250mm, and the size of the ABS sheet used is 1400mm*1200mm*4mm. First, confirm the color and texture of the sheet. Because the color and texture of the decoration are very important, the first thing passengers feel when riding is the interior environment. Check if the sheet is taken from a newly opened package. Otherwise, the sheet needs to be put in an oven to dry. This is because when the sheet is wet, bubbles will appear on the surface of the sheet when heated, the appearance quality will deteriorate, and in severe cases, the sheet will crack during the forming process. At the same time, install the mold on the thermoforming machine, adjust the position and pressure frame, and preset the mold rising process and time; the top of the mold must not exceed the thermoforming workbench. Then, heat the mold to about 60℃.

Place the sheet on the automatic feeding device, and the machine sends the sheet to the workbench of the thermoforming machine, and the pressure frame presses the sheet from top to bottom. Then, move the heating machine to the top of the workbench to heat the sheet, usually heated to about 120℃ for 2-3 minutes; if it is advanced equipment, the heating temperature can be set in different areas, and the heating temperature can be appropriately increased in places with large elongation. After heating, the mold starts to move upward at the same time.
