  Thermoforming Manufacturers: Introduction to Thermoforming

Thermoforming Manufacturers Thermoforming is one of the commonly used forming methods in plastic packaging. It is a processing and forming technology that uses plastic sheets as its target. In the 1980s, thermoforming became widespread in China. In recent decades, through continuous improvements to thermoforming equipment, problems with temperature control and transmission methods of thermoforming machines have been improved, especially for PET products, which have seen improvements in high brightness, high uniformity, and high precision.

Thermoforming Manufacturers Basic equipment for thermoforming equipment:

  1. Clamping System

When the plastic sheet is formed, it is fixed on the clamping device. In the vacuum forming thermoforming machine, clamping devices that are easy to fix sheets of various sizes are often used to form a sealing function.

  2. Heating System

One of the first processes of thermoforming is heating the sheet to soften it into a plastic material. The electric heating method uses heat radiation to conduct heat.

  3. Vacuum System

The vacuum system consists of a vacuum pump, a storage tank, valves, pipes, and a vacuum gauge. The vacuum pump generates an appropriate vacuum as the driving force for bubble formation.

  4. Cooling System

The finished product of vacuum thermoforming needs to be cooled before it can be demolded. Molds with built-in cooling coils are selected. Air cooling can be used instead of water cooling (such as gypsum molds, copper molds).

  5. Demolding System

Demolding is the process of removing the finished product from the mold. Because the cooling time of the finished product is shortened and it sticks to the mold, it is demolded by blowing air in the opposite direction through the vacuum suction holes. Especially for molds with smaller demolding slopes or concave molds, demolding organization clearance or vibration demolding should be used simultaneously.

Thermoforming molds can be divided into male molds, female molds, and high and low molds. The raw materials of the molds can also be divided into aluminum molds, gypsum molds, copper-plated molds, etc., depending on different product designs and application conditions.

Thermoforming Manufacturers: Commonly used materials for thermoforming packaging products include PET (polyester plastic), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), PS (polystyrene), and PP (polypropylene).

  Polyester Plastic

It has a hard texture, good toughness, is not easily torn, has high strength, a bright surface, is anti-seepage, weather-resistant, has good chemical stability, is acid and organic solvent resistant, has high-temperature absorption resistance, is resistant to hot water immersion, and is alkali-resistant. It shrinks at high temperatures, and its melting point is around 50 degrees.

Identification by combustion method: Easily combustible, can be drawn into filaments, edges turn white. Density: 1.36 g/cm³

  Polyvinyl Chloride: Polyvinyl Chloride

This sheet material has high toughness, poor hardness and solubility, is stable against organic and inorganic acids, alkalis, and salts, is not easily burned by a fire source, is resistant to climate change, and has excellent geometric stability.

Identification by combustion method: The flame is yellowish-green, black smoke comes out of the fire, and there is an irritating acidic smell. Density: 1.4 g/cm³ Polystyrene

Low density, light weight, environmentally friendly and non-toxic, high plasticity, poor toughness, high brittleness, cracking and tearing, low impact strength, easily decomposed by water, good anti-static and conductive effect.

Thermoforming Manufacturers: Thermoforming packaging products are frequently used in daily life. Examples include the transparent packaging of commonly used hardware tools in supermarkets, the inner support boxes of biscuit packaging, and the inner packaging boxes of disposable dumplings, all of which utilize thermoforming technology.
