Common Defects in Thick-Plate Thermoformed Products
Undesirable linear protrusions produced during thick-plate thermoforming require mold modification and the addition of extra pressure molds to resolve. Excessive wire is considered a defect and unsuitable for thermoforming packaging. However, in the field of rotating part trays, as long as the wires are neatly arranged and do not affect functionality, they are considered acceptable.

Scratches on thermoformed products, especially transparent ones, are considered defects if they are too long or large, rendering them unsuitable for packaging. During the manufacturing process of thick thermoforming sheets, fine dust in the air settling on the heated plastic material is one source of transparent defects, particularly in transparent thick sheets. If these defects are too large or numerous, the product is considered defective.
During the manufacturing process of thick-plate thermoforming, air trapped in the heated plastic material can result in bubbles in the finished sheet, especially in transparent thermoforming. Excessive or large bubbles render the product defective.
Variations in materials and processing techniques can lead to surface water ripples in the finished sheets during the manufacturing of thick-plate thermoforming materials. These ripples are particularly noticeable in transparent sheets and are considered defects if excessive or too large. Generally, thicker sheets exhibit more pronounced water ripples. While water ripples are rare in qualified PET materials, they are common in most PVC.
Technology and Characteristics of Thick-Plate Thermoformed Trays
Thick-plate thermoformed trays are plastic trays formed using thermoforming technology, designed to hold products, providing protection and aesthetic appeal. There are also transport-type tray packaging options, with ease of use being a primary factor in tray selection.
Thick-plate thermoformed trays consist of a locking lid, a bottom tray, and foldable side panels. The lid and bottom tray are made of HDPE using a double-layer, one-time thick-plate thermoforming process. The intermediate side panels can be made of PP, plastic hollow board, or seven-layer corrugated cardboard.
Thick-plate thermoformed trays are designed for repeated use throughout the supply chain. The lids and bottom trays can be reused for over 10 years, and the plastic and corrugated cardboard side panels can be replaced and reused multiple times, significantly reducing logistics and warehousing costs for customers. All components are designed to be foldable, with lids and bases nesting or stacking, saving 50% warehouse space compared to traditional packaging.
The top and bottom supports of the thick-plate thermoformed tray are made from two ABS sheets thermoformed as a single piece, resulting in a sturdy and durable tray that is easy to assemble and disassemble. No tools are required, and one person can assemble or disassemble the tray in a few minutes. The lid and bottom tray each have four locking catches to secure the side panels, eliminating the need for additional packaging and saving on materials and labor costs.
