Depending on the form of the raw materials, thermoforming can be divided into two categories: thick-walled and thin-walled. Thick-sheet thermoforming refers to a technique where the raw materials used exceed 2mm a certain thickness and cannot be thermoformed on automatic machines. It must be processed and produced by a semi-automatic thermoforming machine specifically designed for thick sheets. Thick-sheet thermoformed products generally have the characteristics of large area, high height, and thick material.

The production methods for thick-sheet and thin-walled thermoformed products are similar, mainly using vacuum thermoforming molds. These plastic products are widely used in various aspects of people's daily lives, such as automotive interior and exterior decoration, transportation, building materials, packaging, medical devices, home appliances, stationery and sanitary ware, and sporting goods. The processing principle of thick-sheet thermoforming is basically the same as that of conventional thermoforming. Plastic sheets are cut into a certain size, and through the pressure difference on both sides of the sheet or mechanical pressure, they are heated, softened, deformed, and adhered to the specific contour surface of the mold, then cooled and shaped, trimmed, and finished to obtain the desired product. ABS 、 ABS TPU etc. Below is a brief introduction to the basic properties of these three materials:
1、 HDPE( High-density polyethylene ) Material: It has good cold resistance, chemical stability, heat resistance, high rigidity, toughness, and excellent environmental stress cracking resistance. Main uses: Large parts, yachts, 200 buckets, oil tanks, pallets, plastic pallet lids, special packaging for most auto parts, etc. 2、 ABS Material: It has good heat resistance, low-temperature resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical properties. Compared with HDPE , it has better product dimensional stability, easy molding, good surface gloss, load-bearing capacity, and compressive strength. High-density polyethylene has greater advantages in low-temperature resistance, toughness, and environmental stress cracking resistance. Main uses: Widely used in automobiles, electronics and electrical appliances, office and communication equipment. In the packaging field, it is mainly used for automated picking projects by robotic arms with high requirements for packaging size accuracy. 3、 ABS TPU( Thermoplastic polyurethane ) Material: It is ABS a sheet material produced through a special co-extrusion process, so that ABS the surface of the sheet is covered with a layer of TPU film, a new type of sheet material. Products made from this material not only have ABS excellent mechanical properties, but also have TPU high wear resistance and tear resistance. The cost of this material is 2~3 times that of ordinary materials. Due to the high cost, the application of this material is limited. TPU Features: Wear resistance When the material is frequently subjected to scratching, grinding, and friction during use, it will cause its surface to gradually wear, so the most important thing is the wear resistance of the material. TPU Plastic raw materials have excellent wear resistance, more than five times that of natural rubber, and are one of the preferred materials for wear-resistant products.
Generally speaking, TPU compared with some commonly used plastics, it has higher tear resistance. Main uses: Mainly used for automotive interior parts. In the packaging field, it is mainly used for parts and accessories with high cleanliness requirements, such as parts packaging for power systems such as gearboxes and engines. From the characteristics of the above three materials, it can be seen that thick-sheet thermoformed products are very suitable for the packaging of many automakers and parts and accessories in the automotive industry. Through the introduction and analysis of several cases, the application of thick-sheet thermoformed packaging products in the automotive parts industry is elaborated.
